RICHMOND SPCA GREEN TEAM
What is the Green Team?
Green Team members are Richmond SPCA volunteers who go through special training on dog behavior, canine communication (body language) and reward-based training methods. After completing their training, Green Teamers are given additional responsibilities and privileges with regard to the animals in our care. They focus on teaching dogs skills that will aid in their adoption, as well as providing crucial physical exercise and mental stimulation. Due to the hard work and special attention provided by our dedicated Green Team, we are able to greatly improve the quality of our shelter dogs’ lives while they await adoption and help them find their “forever homes” faster. For cat lovers, we’re currently developing a Green Team feline training and enrichment program!

What are the Pet University Classes and when can I take them?
Pet University is a 4-week class for current and active Richmond SPCA volunteers who want to become members of the Green Team. Green Team volunteers have additional responsibilities and privileges with regard to our shelter dogs. They become involved with playgroups, training, and behavior modification, and are given lots of opportunities to improve their training skills. Volunteers are required to attend all four 2-hour sessions of Pet University in order to join the Green Team. This class is offered to our volunteers at no cost. Pet University is now currently enrolling. Questions about Pet University? Please contact Sarah Babcock at 804-521-1324 and sbabcock@richmondspca.org.
