Legend Brewing Company introduces Brady’s Blonde Ale, featuring dog adopted from the Richmond SPCA, during Be Kind to Animals Week

Posted on Thursday, April 30, 2020

When the live auction opened at the Richmond SPCA’s last Fur Ball on November 2, 2019, bidding was fiercely competitive on the first package introduced to the audience: the opportunity to work with the brewers at Richmond’s Legend Brewing Company on a limited-release beer to feature the winning bidder’s own pet on the label. The resulting creation from Legend Brewing Company, Brady’s Blonde Ale, will debut during Be Kind to Animals Week on Friday, May 8, 2020.

The flavorful and easy-drinking blonde ale has a zippy, citrusy hop aroma complemented by mild notes of honey and spice. Four-packs of Brady’s Blonde Ale will be available from Legend Brewing Company’s Richmond Brewpub beginning at noon next Friday. Takeout family-style meals are available from the Richmond pub, along with their full menu, with contact-free curbside pickup as well as free delivery options in the Manchester and Forest Hill neighborhoods.

The smiling blonde dog who is prominent on each can is Brady, the beloved companion of Jack and Katherine Nelson, who adopted him from the Richmond SPCA in January of 2019. The Nelsons’ winning bid of $14,000 for the auction package went to the Richmond SPCA’s Cinderella Fund and is being used to deliver lifesaving veterinary treatment to sick and injured dogs and cats taken into the care of the local nonprofit humane society.

Katherine Nelson describes Brady as an exuberantly affectionate dog who was the perfect fit for their family. “We are excited that having Brady’s cute face on a Legend Brewing label will let us share his effervescent personality and the hoppiness in his heart with friends while bringing attention to pets at the Richmond SPCA and funding the veterinary care that Brady was so fortunate to receive while he waited to be adopted,” she said.

Legend Brewing Company Regional Pub Manager Allen Valencia said, “It’s important to think of all of us—every member of the family—not just the human ones during COVID-19. We want to make sure we are doing our part to help animals. It has been a great pleasure to team up with Brady’s family and the Richmond SPCA to bring awareness to all of the other pets out there looking for a family they can adopt and complete.”

Brady was photographed by Amanda Arnold Photography for the can designed by The Zest Lab.
