Betty White Challenge 2023

Posted on Tuesday, January 17, 2023

On December 31, 2021, TV legend Betty White sadly passed away just weeks before what would have been her 100th birthday on January 17, 2022. This star shone bright — in addition to touching our hearts with her stellar performances, Betty White held a lifelong commitment to advocating for animal welfare.

Shortly after her death, the #BettyWhiteChallenge swept the nation, encouraging fans to make a gift to a local animal shelter in honor of Betty White’s love of animals.

This year, we’re hoping to continue the trend by fundraising for gifts to support the pets in our care.

In celebration of her life, Betty White’s fans here at the Richmond SPCA had a blast paying tribute to this icon by creating our own version of “The Golden Girls” intro. We hope you’ll enjoy this video featuring some of our pets who are available for adoption.

Fans of “The Golden Girls” will remember many iconic scenes featuring the leading ladies enjoying a cheesecake while gathered around the kitchen table. In appreciation of the lifesaving support we receive today, we’ll be giving away a gift card for a free cheesecake from The Cheesecake Factory to one lucky donor. Anyone who makes a gift to the Richmond SPCA in honor of Betty White on Tuesday, January 17 will be automatically entered into the drawing. A winner will be randomly selected and contacted on Thursday, January 21.

We invite you to join us in celebrating the life and legacy of Betty White (and cheesecake!) by making a gift to support the vulnerable pets in our care.
Thank you for being a friend!

Keep an eye on our website for the younger, four-legged Betty White, who will be available for adoption soon.
