We Were Adopted: January 6 – 12, 2025

Posted on Monday, January 13, 2025

Our wonderful adoption counselors found home for 49 precious pets last week including long-term pets like Orson Smells! Orson Smells is a sweet senior pup who had been in our care since August 2023. While he made several friends at our humane center, we are so excited that he has finally found his new best friends. After spending some time in foster care, Orson Smells’ foster providers decided he was the pawfect fit and officially made him part of their family.

Other long-term residents like Kojak, Terry, Working Man and Zippy also found their loving, lasting homes last week! We are so thrilled for our newest alumni and their adopters. Congratulations!

Notable adoptions

Orson Smells: Orson Smells is a sweet senior pup who had been in our care since August 2023, making him our second longest resident. He is deaf, and due to his lack of hearing, he can get spooked easily, and needed to be the only pet in an adult only home. When Orson Smells went into foster care, his foster family fell in love and decided to make him part of their family. We are over the moon for this pawfect match!

His adopters made his welcome official by treating Orson Smells to a family photoshoot. Congratulations to Orson Smells and his amazing new guardians!

Kojak: Sweet Kojak had been in and out of our care since August and we are so excited to share that he finally found his loving, lasting home last week! Huge congratulations to Kojak and his adopters.

Terry: Terry walked through our doors in September and started his search for his loving, lasting home. With his loving nature and sweet cuddles, we knew his pawfect family was out there! Terry found his match last week and we couldn’t be more excited for him and his new guardians.

Working Man: Working Man is an incredible pup who found himself in our care back in August. With some time and patience, this sweetheart found his home! Congratulations to Working Man and his new family.

Zippy: Zippy had been in our care since July and found his match last week! We are so thrilled for this purrfect senior boy and his new guardian.

Our wonderful community

Citywide water disruptions

We are deeply grateful for our community who showed our staff, volunteers and pets so much compassion during the citywide water disruption by dropping off water donations and assisting with laundry. We are also extremely thankful for Ducky Power Wash for coming by and providing us with 400 gallons of water for the pets in our care. Thanks to the Ducky’s team and all of your kind donations, we were able to clean our kennels and provide potable water for our pets and people.C

Good samaritans

Last week, two very kind samaritans, Rachel and Henry came by to visit our sweet pup Austin. Rachel made a pillow for Austin, in honor of her deceased dog Jessie who died from cancer last April. We are so touched by this wonderful act of kindness, and Austin is so excited about his new pillow!

Children’s camps

Children’s winter camps are in full swing at the Richmond SPCA! We had a great week of camp last week, introducing campers to our precious pets while also enjoying some fun activities. We offer various activities for kids throughout the year and we are always excited to meet new faces. Check out all of the exciting options we have available for kiddos!
