We Were Adopted: January 27 – February 2, 2025

Posted on Monday, February 03, 2025

The first month of 2025 was a tail-wagging success at the Richmond SPCA, with many long-term pets finding their purrfect homes. The pawty continues as we celebrated even more notable adoptions last week including Fortnight, Ghibli, Push Pin, Gopher and Melvin. In total, 43 cats, 22 dogs and two guinea pigs left our care to begin their next chapter. We are barking with joy as we cheer on our newest alumni and their adopters. Congratulations!

Heartwarming moments of the week

Notable adoptions

Fortnight: Fortnight first came into our care in April 2024, and we all fell in love with his infectious smile and goofy personality. As you may be able to tell from his photos, Fortnight loved going on adventures with our staff and volunteers and even liked to play dress up from time to time. After several months at our humane center, Fortnight found his person. Congratulations to this sweet boy and his adopter!

Ghibli: Ghibli had been in and out of our care since December 2023, and during his time with us, he easily became a staff favorite. We are so glad we had the opportunity to get to know this pawfect boy, but we are so glad to share that he found his loving, lasting home last week. Our tails are wagging with joy for Ghibli and his new guardian.

Push Pin: After we brought Push Pin into our care in September, we found she had multiple tumors, all of which were cancerous. Our skilled veterinarians were able to treat most of her masses, which she was able to recover from while in foster care and is now cancer free! She eventually went on to find a second foster home where they fell in love with her and decided they couldn’t live without her. We are excited to share that Push Pin found a home last week and we are gushing over this happy ending. Huge congratulations to “Pushy” and her new family.

Gopher: Gopher is a happy hound who found a place at our humane center back in June. During his time with us, it always made his day to get visits from his favorite staff and volunteers. After months of waiting for his pawfect person, his day finally came. Last week, Gopher said a fond farewell to his friends at the shelter and hello to home life! Congratulations to this sweet boy and his new person.

Melvin: Melvin came back into our care in October and waited so politely and patiently for someone to call his new best friend. Melvin made some wonderful memories in foster care during his time with us, and always knew how to put a smile on our faces. Last week, Melvin found his person and we are so happy for him! Congratulations to Melvin and his new guardian.

Richmond SPCA transfers pets affected by LA wildfires

In response to the devastating fires in Los Angeles, animal shelters across California are working to clear space for displaced and injured pets affected by the heartbreaking disaster. Creating room for these animals is critical to reuniting families and providing urgent veterinary care to animals in need.

On Friday night, our transfer team was on the road to meet a rescue flight in Wilmington, Delaware, when inclement weather rerouted the plane to Philadelphia. After a long journey, we are thrilled to announce that we have welcomed 10 precious pups from California.

Our veterinary and care teams will ensure these dogs are happy, healthy and ready to find loving homes. We can’t wait for you to meet them in the coming weeks.

Your generosity makes our lifesaving work possible. Please consider making a gift to our transfer fund today to help show these pups why “Virginia is for (animal) Lovers.”

Adoption photos

We are grateful to Showtime Photo Booth for creating a memorable photo wall for our adopters to capture and share a ‘gotcha day’ moment. They have been serving clients since 2013 and provide over 21 unique photo booths.

Alumni update

Cobweb:

Cobweb (now Krampus) was adopted from us in December and has completely made himself right at home with his new dog sister. His adopter writes:

“Krampus (previously Cobweb) acclimated to his new home like he’s lived here all along! He is best buddies with his big sister Yoshi (also SPCA alum, who has been with us for almost 12 years!), they love to cuddle and it’s just the cutest thing. He is the sweetest cat I’ve ever met, he loves to cuddle and be held like a baby. We are so happy he’s part of the family!”
