We Were Adopted: February 3 – February 9, 2025

Happy Monday! As always, we’re kicking off the week with pawsitive news. Last week, Cupid — err we mean our adoption counselors — helped find love for 51 dogs and cats including long-term pets like Toelene and Skooshy! 🐾 The love didn’t stop there. Our hardworking staff also helped many senior sweethearts like Stag, SidewalkVan and Swiffer find their Valentines. 🐶❤️🐱
Feeling the love yet? Love is definitely in the air at the Richmond SPCA, and we want you to be part of it! Stop by for our Dog Speed Dating event this Thursday, February 13 from 4 to 7 p.m. and find your pawfect match. Meet our adorable pups, and you just might fall head over paws for your very own love bug to spend the holiday with. 🐕💘

Heartwarming moment of the week
Notable adoptions
Toelene: Toelene first came into our care in February 2023 and two years later, found her pawfect Valentine! Toelene has many friends at the shelter including staff and volunteers who are cheering her on. We are so thrilled for Toelene and her adopter. Congratulations!

Skooshy: Skooshy was transferred into our care in November. She came to us from a shelter in Tennessee experiencing a shortage of kennel space due to pets being displaced from their families during hurricane Helene. We happily took in this sweetie and we are happy to share that she found her loving, lasting home last week. Congratulations to Skooshy and her new guardian!

Alumni update
Not only do you save lives when adopting from animal shelters, but sometimes those pets save yours. Last week, we received an incredible alumni update from Vedder (now Vader) and his adopter. The adopter shared:
“Vedder saved my life. I adopted Vedder, who I renamed Vader – yes I am a sci-fi fan, from the Richmond SPCA on January 18, 2025.
A few days after settling in, Vader was loudly barking and my housemate found me unconscious and unresponsive. My housemate then called EMS and I was in the hospital for about a week. Thanks to Vader, he alerted my house that something was wrong and saved my life.“
