Compassion in Action: January 2025

Posted on Wednesday, February 19, 2025

Like all of RVA, we started 2025 with a shiver as a winter storm was followed by the city-wide water outage. Though our public programming was disrupted, the care of the animals in our humane center never takes a break, and our community came through with water donations and laundry assistance.

Aside from weather woes, we brought 241 new pets into our care in January. Our transfer team worked with 22 partners this month, including Best Friends Animal Society, who transported 10 dogs from LA so that local shelters could better assist their community with recovery from the wildfires.

The indoor enrichment opportunities available in our public training programs are especially appreciated during these winter months, and we taught 155 classes. Our students at School for Dogs also stayed busy, completing 239 hours of training. Find a class to take with your dog!

The graphics below provide more information at a glance at compassion in action across all our programs in the month of January.

Recurring monthly gifts from our Pet Pals donors ensure we are prepared to say “yes” to the next pet or person in need of help. A small monthly gift adds up over the course of the year, equipping us to shelter, treat, train and more. Join the Pet Pal ranks today to help save lives every month!
