Compassion in Action: April 2025

National Volunteer Week is celebrated each year in April, and our volunteers gave us so much to celebrate this month — 1,285 hours of their time, to be exact! We are so grateful for the active volunteers who fill shifts in our humane center, at Smoky’s Spay & Neuter Clinic, our Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital and at events throughout the community. With volunteer support, we’ve also relaunched our beloved pet-assisted therapy program, Paws for Health, and have five teams ready for visits to retirement communities, schools, workplaces and more.
Our volunteers’ compassionate service contributes to every aspect of our programming. For a glimpse of what else happened across our operations in April, take a look at the graphics below.

Recurring monthly gifts from our Pet Pals donors ensure we are prepared to say “yes” to the next pet or person in need of help. A small monthly gift adds up over the course of the year, equipping us to shelter, treat, train and more. Join the Pet Pal ranks today to help save lives every month!
