Good Start Puppy 1

October 25 – December 13, 2020 (no class November 29)
Sundays at 10:30 a.m.

Please review our Covid-19 training class policies before attending your first class.

Instructor: Beth White

For puppies 8-16 weeks of age at the start date. Getting your puppy started on the right track is very important. Good Start Puppy 1 combines socialization, problem prevention, an introduction to training, and most importantly, fun!  Your puppy can start learning anything at this age, but you have a short window to help mold how he or she will see the world as an adult.

We will concentrate on socialization with people and other dogs while introducing foundational manners and skills. We will also spend time on exercises to help prevent common behavior challenges. Lots of playtime with other puppies is included, and your dog may make life-long friends!

We will discuss:

  • The importance of socialization at an early age
  • How dogs learn and an introduction to clicker training
  • How to identify friendly play with other dogs
  • Name recognition
  • Sit
  • Come
  • Confidence building
  • Jumping up
  • Leash walking
  • Resource guarding prevention
  • Body handling
  • Mouthing

The first class is for people only.

All puppies must be 8-16 weeks of age and current on vaccinations. This class is designed to be followed by Surviving Adolescence.

Seven-session, one-hour class in Smoky’s Training Center.
