Intro to Flyball

July 11 – August 22, 2019
Thursdays at 6:30 p.m.

Instructor: Emily Neal

Prerequisite: familiar with basic manners, including a solid recall and ability to work safely off leash around other dogs and people

Intro to Flyball is designed for dogs and handlers who have no previous Flyball experience. Looking for something new and different to try with your dog? This is the game for you! Flyball is an exciting, fast-paced sport where a four-dog relay team races over jumps. Each dog is sent over four jumps, hits a box spring-loaded with a tennis ball, and then returns over the jumps with the ball before the next dog goes! The jumps are set 10 feet apart, and the height is determined by the smallest dog on the team, so small dogs are welcome. The world record for four dogs to complete the course is 14.1 seconds!  Your dog does not have to be a ball fanatic or a speed demon to play this game—any dog who likes to have fun and work hard can be successful. Dogs of all shapes, sizes, colors, and breed mixes can play. We will teach your dog the foundations of the sport, such as jumping the four-jump pattern, retrieving the ball, and the basics of retrieving the ball from the box.

Dogs must be tolerant of other dogs and people in a high-energy environment. Your dog needs to be in good physical condition to run, jump, and make quick turns, and mentally developed to understand the obedience skills noted.

All dogs must be 1 year or older and current on vaccinations. Spaying or neutering is strongly recommended.

Seven-week, one-hour class in Track & Training Center
