Surviving Adolescence

February 26 – April 15, 2020 (No class March 25)
Wednesdays at 6:45 p.m.

Instructor: Jacob Burnheimer

Prerequisite: we recommend that puppies 4-6 months of age complete a socialization based puppy class prior to taking this class but it is not required.

Surviving Adolescence is a basic manners course intended for older puppies and dogs in their “teenage” stage of development who are 4-18 months old.  It will include some socialization exercises but will also help you teach your dog basic manners.

We will cover the following:

  • How dogs learn and the basics of clicker training
  • Getting and keeping your dog’s attention
  • Name recognition
  • Sit
  • Down
  • Stay
  • Come
  • Leave it
  • Not jumping on people
  • Keeping your dog’s attention and maintaining good behaviors even when you are not carrying food or other motivators and rewards

The manners covered in this course are a prerequisite for other classes or activities you may plan to do with your dog in the future. This or Canine Manners are suggested as one of the foundation classes for either sports or CGC classes. The first class is for people only.

All dogs must be 4-18 months old and current on vaccinations. Spaying or neutering strongly recommended.

Seven-week, one-hour class in Smoky’s Training Center.
