Prerequisite: we recommend that puppies 4-6 months of age complete a socialization based puppy class prior to taking this class but it is not required.
Surviving Adolescence is for dogs 4-18 months old in their challenging “teenage” stage of development. Teach your dog the basic skills needed to succeed in everyday life. The skills we will cover include sit, down, come, stay and leave it. This class also covers the importance of proper socialization during this growth stage and common behavior challenges such as jumping up. The first class is for people only.
We will cover the following:
- How dogs learn
- Proper socialization with teenage dog
- Sit
- Down
- Stay
- Come
- Leave it
- Not jumping on people
- Keeping your dog’s attention and maintaining good behaviors even when you are not carrying food or other motivators and rewards
The manners covered in this course are a prerequisite for other classes or activities you may wish to do with your dog in the future. This class is equivalent to Canine Manners.
All dogs must be 4-18 months old and current on vaccinations.
Seven-session, one-hour class in Smoky’s Training Center. Richmond, VA. $150
By registering for training classes with the Richmond SPCA, I hereby waive, release and discharge for myself, my heirs, personal representatives and assigns any and all rights, liability, causes of action and claims that may now or hereafter accrue to me or which I may now or hereafter assert against the Richmond SPCA or the officers, directors, employees, agents, successors and assigns of any of them for injury or illness and/or property damage that my dog may suffer or sustain as a result of his or her participation in Richmond SPCA animal training programs. I hereby assume all risks of any such injury, illness, or damage. I certify that my pet is physically fit to participate in Richmond SPCA animal training program activities.
