A Purrfect Love to Celebrate

One question from the staff stuck with Grace: “Would you be open to adopting a cat diagnosed with FIV (feline immunodeficiency virus)?” After learning about the condition and its potential impact on a cat’s health, Grace felt comfortable adopting a cat with this diagnosis. The staff then introduced her to the most beautiful buff tabby named Goldie. Grace instantly fell in love with his sweet and friendly nature. She adopted Goldie, who is now known as Steve. Since adopting Steve in February 2022, he has become Zane and Grace’s most beloved companion.

Following their adoption experience, the Richmond SPCA continued to play an important role in Grace’s life. As a graduate student, Grace was concerned about having enough time to properly care for Steve. The Richmond SPCA offered affordable supplies and toys through our Lora Robins Gift Shop and, most importantly, low-cost, high-quality veterinary care at our Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital. It is our mission to ensure all families have access to affordable treatment options for their pets, regardless of financial hardship. Since Steve was an older cat with FIV, it was essential to regularly check his health and monitor his well-being. Our staff gave Grace peace of mind knowing Steve would always be in good hands.

“The work that is performed at the Richmond SPCA and the services they provide are essential to the community of animals living in Richmond. They have done so much for Steve and other cats like him, and we are proud to support their cause, and thank you for doing so, too.” – Grace
