SUMMARY:From Lab to Love: A Conversation with Melanie D.G. Kaplan
DESCRIPTION:Join us at the Richmond SPCA for a special event with local author and journalist Melanie D.G. Kaplan as she discusses her new book\, Lab Dog: A Beagle and His Human Investigate the Surprising World of Animal Research. Curious about her adopted beagle's past—and the broader world of animal research—Kaplan\, alongside her former lab dog Hammy\, embarks on a quest for answers. Equal parts journalism and love story\, Lab Dog offers a nuanced view on our relationship with a species that we both love and exploit. Dr. Jane Goodall called the book “remarkable.” \nKaplan will be in conversation with former WRIC Investigative Reporter\, Kerri O’Brien\, followed by an audience Q&A and book signing. \nRegistration is required. Guests may purchase a $10 ticket\, all of which will be donated to the Richmond SPCA; or a $45 ticket\, which includes the donation plus a signed copy of Lab Dog. Books will also be available for purchase courtesy of Shelf Life Books. \nPurchase your tickets today and learn how these precious animals went from a lab to loving homes. Well behaved dogs are welcome to join.

SUMMARY:Introduction to Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR)

Learn more about the Richmond SPCA’s TNVR program. \nDuring this training\, Peggy will provide hands-on instruction for those wanting to help community cats through TNVR. \nRegistration for this free workshop is required. Pizza will be provided\, and advance signups ensure we make an accurate order.

SUMMARY:Kittens in Bloom: A Community Kitten Shower
DESCRIPTION:Admission: Suggested $20 donation or a gift of supplies from our kitten registry \nJoin us for an afternoon of light snacks\, crafts\, and games and help us prepare for the hundreds of kittens arriving at the Richmond SPCA this spring. \nEach spring and summer\, the Richmond SPCA cares for hundreds of tiny neonatal kittens — many just days old\, too fragile to survive without dedicated human care. But before the season begins\, we need to stock our shelves. \nOur highest priority kitten season supplies: \n\nKitten Formula  Small | Large (Amazon)\nBaby Wipes: Amazon\nKitten Bottles & Nipples: Amazon\nLarge carriers: Amazon\nStainless steel litter pans: Amazon\n\nCan't make it? You can ship supplies directly to us from anywhere using our Amazon Wish List. \n
