Pets for Patriots gives military veterans and their families the greatest “thank you” of all: the extraordinary love of a companion animal.

The Richmond SPCA is proud to be part of the Pets for Patriots nationwide network of trusted adoption and veterinary partners.

To participate, veterans must pre-qualify with Pets for Patriots.

Benefits for Qualified Member Patriots

  • Personalized assistance from our adoption staff in finding a cat or dog who fits your home and lifestyle
  • Welcome home kit for your new pet
    • For cats: litter box, food and water bowls, litter scoop, toy and a cardboard scratcher
    • For dogs: leash, collar, food and water bowls and a toy
  • Discounted adoption fee of $50
  • Access to low-cost veterinary care at our Susan M. Markel Veterinary Hospital

Pets for Patriots Pet Eligibility*

  • Dog or cat 2 years of age or older
  • Dog or cat of any age with special needs
  • Dog or cat who has been in our care for 6 months or more
  • Dog of any age weighing 40 pounds or more at the time of adoption

*Any of these criteria make a pet eligible for a Pets for Patriots adoption
