our community

stepped up

now we are catching up

We are enhancing our program to ensure that, as we grow, we can offer the experience you deserve. During this time, we have temporarily paused new volunteer enrollment.

Thanks for your patience, and we hope to see you at our center soon!

If you are open to fostering a pet in your home as a way to get involved, we'd love to meet you. We have dozens of new pets in need of fostering weekly.

Volunteer opportunities

We're taking a short pause on new volunteer applications so we can keep improving the experience. Take a look at the opportunities below to see where you might fit in, and know that we're also working on new ways to get involved that are welcoming, inclusive, and built around your time.

Must be 14 or older to work independently with cats. Younger volunteers may join alongside a parent or guardian. Cat-related shifts are offered daily between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Opportunities include care and cleaning, cat enrichment, Kitten Krew, and the chance to join our Blue Team after additional training.

Must be 16 or older to work independently with dogs. Younger volunteers may join alongside a parent or guardian.  Dog-related shifts are offered daily between the hours of 8:15 a.m. and 4 p.m. Opportunities include dog walking, dog enrichment, Running Buddies™, and the chance to join our Green Team after additional training.

Must be 14 or older to work independently. Younger volunteers may join alongside a parent or guardian. Behind-the-scenes volunteer opportunities are offered daily between the hours of 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. and include enrichment prep, dishwashing, laundry, and clerical work.

Join us at events both onsite and within the community to help raise awareness and resources for the Richmond SPCA. Opportunities include hosting information tables, assisting with event-related preparation, supporting our signature fundraising events — Fur Ball (November) and Dog Jog, 5K and Block Party (March), and more.

Middle school students (grades 6 through 8) can join the Animal Brigade Service Club to learn about their four-legged friends through volunteer projects and humane education. To join, visit ourAnimal Brigade Service Club page.
