Animal Brigade

animal brigade

middle school service club

Animal Brigade gives middle school students in grades 6–8 a hands-on way to help animals, learn about animal welfare and make a difference at the Richmond SPCA.

About animal brigade

Animal Brigade is a service club for middle school students in grades 6–8 who want to learn more about animals while making a difference. Offered twice a year, in the spring and fall, each session includes four Saturday morning meetings featuring volunteer projects, humane education and hands-on activities that support the animals in our care.

What Participants Do

Activities vary by session and may include:

  • Socializing dogs and spending time with animals in our care
  • Making toys and enrichment items for cats
  • Learning about animal behavior and reward-based training
  • Helping with service projects such as folding laundry or collecting wish list items
  • Learning about animal welfare and the issues that contribute to animal homelessness
