A Record-Breaking Year Connecting Homeless Pets with Lasting Companions
The Richmond SPCA placed 4,152 homeless pets into new homes this year. It officially breaks the previous record, since moving to our humane center in 2002, for the most homeless pets adopted in a single fiscal year, which ended on September 30.
Behind every adoption are countless people making a difference, including our passionate intake team who welcomed 4,300 new pets to the Richmond SPCA over the past twelve months. From our veterinary staff, animal care technicians and trainers to the foster families opening their homes, volunteers lending their time and talents, and so many others helping each pet through their journey, achieving this milestone took hard work and dedication.
We’re forever grateful to every family who opened their hearts and homes to a homeless pet this year. The decision to adopt not only provides a safe and loving home for that pet but also creates space in the shelter for another homeless animal in need.
And there are still more stories waiting to begin.
There are nearly 100 homeless pets waiting at our adoption center to meet their family — and more across our community awaiting their turn at a second chance. So today, we’re celebrating a record-breaking year. And tomorrow, we get back to work helping the next pet who needs us.
