Shelter life can be stressful for dogs, even the happiest ones. Dog’s Day Out gives our shelter pups a much- needed break from the kennel and the chance to let their true personalities shine.
Whether you take them to a park, grab a pup cup, or simply hang out on your couch, a few hours of fun, relaxation, and one-on-one attention can make a huge difference in a dog’s day.
No prior volunteer experience required. Just a leash (which we provide), some love, and a few free hours.

Dog’s Day Out participants must be comfortable around dogs, have some general dog handling experience, and have a genuine love of our canine friends. The opportunity is open to adults 18 and older, regardless of experience. Our team will walk you through everything before you head out, and your backpack includes all the info you need.
Our dog population changes daily, so our adoptions team will select a dog based on your experience level and the outing you have planned. Our dogs are often eager for an adventure so please give them a chance to say hello and get past their initial excitement. Every dog in the program is a great choice!
Absolutely! Friends and family are welcome to tag along. Just keep in mind that only the registered participant (18+) should hold the leash, and children must be supervised at all times.
Field trips are 2+ hours. We'll confirm your pickup and return time when you sign up.
Not a thing! We'll send you off with everything you need including a leash, treats, water, poop bags, and a handy one-pager, all tucked inside an easy-to-carry backpack.
The adventure is yours to design. Take them to a park, grab a pup cup, or hang out at home. We'll include a list of recommended dog-friendly spots to inspire you.
To keep everyone safe, we ask that you keep your dog leashed in all public spaces. Please do not bring shelter pets to dog parks and off-leash areas, and keep them separate from other animals including any pets you have at home.
If the temperature outside becomes too extreme, our team will provide specific information at pick-up to ensure the safety of our pets. Do not hesitate to reach out in advance if you anticipate weather may impact your field trip plans.
