Group Volunteer Opportunities
Thank you for your interest in bringing a group to volunteer at the Richmond SPCA!
- Volunteer groups are scheduled for two-hour shifts on Mondays, Tuesdays, Thursdays, and Fridays between 10 a.m. and 1 p.m.
- We can accommodate groups of 4 to 10 volunteers per shift. If your group is larger than 10 people, we can schedule multiple service dates to include more volunteers.
- All volunteers must sign our Volunteer Release and Waiver of Liability prior to the start of their volunteer shift.
- Volunteers who are between the ages of 7 and 14 are permitted to volunteer in a group, but they must be accompanied by at least one adult. Volunteers ages 14 and older may volunteer independently. All children under 18 must present a waiver signed by a parent prior to the start of their shift.
During volunteer group shifts, we assign volunteers a variety of tasks to support our different departments and to help with special projects. At the end of their shift, volunteer groups will have the opportunity to meet and give some love to shelter pets in our care who are awaiting their forever homes.
Dishes
Volunteers will wash and disinfect dirty dishes, toys, and litterboxes after cleaning and feeding. Dishes will be located in kennel areas, cat rooms, cat storage closet, and the dishwashing/clean laundry room.
Kennel Assistants
Volunteers will help our animal care technicians by cleaning and disinfecting kennels in our cat and dog areas and preparing those spaces with clean linens, toys and bowls.
Cat Lobby Habitats
Volunteers will help our animal care technicians by cleaning and disinfecting our lobby habitats and preparing those spaces with clean linens, toys, hammocks, litter boxes and bowls.
Cleaning Outdoor Area
Volunteers will help clean items in our back dock area outdoors. During this shift, volunteers will be disinfecting crates, disinfecting and putting clean dog walking equipment away, and disinfecting our outdoor playpen.
Dog Enrichment Prep
Volunteers will help restock and replenish dog enrichment items, as well as clean high traffic dog enrichment areas. Duties during this shift include stuffing KONGs (both peanut butter and prescription food), cutting up high value treats (cheese, hot dogs, and raw food), refilling treat containers, and disinfecting and organizing our assessment room.
All of our available group volunteer opportunities for 2023 have been reserved. Please email our volunteer management team to be added to our waiting list.
