Introduction to Trap-Neuter-Vaccinate-Return (TNVR)
Whether you're new to Trap-Neuter-Return or have years of experience, this workshop is designed to help you improve your skills, access valuable information and resources, and increase your success trapping community cats.
Learn the essential techniques, safety practices, and planning considerations needed to successfully trap, transport, and care for outdoor community cats through the TNR process.

- Site Planning & Preparation: Gain practical advice and resources to help you solve common trapping challenges and improve your success rate, including equipment checklists, site preparation guides, and tips for dealing with neighbor or neighborhood resistance.
- Field Tactics: Topics covered include how to scout locations, develop trapping schedules, safely handle and transport cats, and plan for contingencies.
- Learn from Experienced Trappers: Gain practical advice to help you solve a variety of trapping challenges and improve your success rate.
Whether you're trapping your first cat or managing large colonies, you'll leave with the knowledge, confidence, and resources to make your TNR efforts safer, more effective, and more successful. Attendees will receive a digital certificate of completion. The workshop is 2 hours followed by 15 minutes of Q&A. The workshop is free, but registration is required. A pizza supper is included.
Instructors: Peggy Lynch and Jen Simunek are with SOS Cats RVA. They bring 30-plus years of collective TNR experience to this workshop instruction. SOS Cats RVA is an all-volunteer trap, neuter, and return organization whose mission is to build a more humane community that embraces compassionate approaches to reducing feline overpopulation, homelessness, and needless suffering. In 2025, SOS Cats RVA facilitated TNR for over 400 community cats.
