learn more

Must be 14 or older to work independently with cats. Younger volunteers may join alongside a parent or guardian. Cat-related shifts are offered daily between the hours of 9 a.m. and 4 p.m. Opportunities include care and cleaning, cat enrichment, Kitten Krew, and the chance to join our Blue Team after additional training.  

Must be 16 or older to work independently with dogs. Younger volunteers may join alongside a parent or guardian.  Dog-related shifts are offered daily between the hours of 8:15 a.m. and 4 p.m. Opportunities include dog walking, dog enrichment, Running Buddies™, and the chance to join our Green Team after additional training.

Must be 14 or older to work independently. Younger volunteers may join alongside a parent or guardian. Behind-the-scenes volunteer opportunities are offered daily between the hours of 8 a.m. and 7 p.m. and include enrichment prep, dishwashing, laundry, and clerical work. 

Join us at events both onsite and within the community to help raise awareness and resources for the Richmond SPCA. Opportunities include hosting information tables, assisting with event-related preparation, supporting our signature fundraising events — Fur Ball (November) and Dog Jog, 5K and Block Party (March), and more. 

Middle school students (grades 6 through 8) can join the Animal Brigade Service Club to learn about their four-legged friends through volunteer projects and humane education. To join, visit ourAnimal Brigade Service Club page.

Volunteer commitment

Richmond SPCA volunteers must commit to giving four hours of service each month for a period of four months. To remain active after the four-month period, you must perform at least one shift every three months.

At this time, we are unable to accommodate court-mandated volunteers.
