Last week, the Richmond SPCA participated in Clear The Shelters, a weeklong adoption event where fees were fully sponsored to help find more placements for homeless pets. We’re excited to share that our dedicated team found homes for 117 pets like Mac, Bongodaddy, Jojo and Goldilocks! Continue reading to see who else found their perfect match.

Clear The Shelters

Last week, the Richmond SPCA participated in Clear The Shelters, a nationwide pet adoption and donation initiative where all adoption fees were sponsored. This lifesaving event was made possible through the generosity of The Betty J. Parmer Trust, which sponsored adoption fees for all qualified adopters. We are thrilled to share that 117 pets found homes during this promotion, including many who had longer stays with us. Thank you to all of the wonderful adopters who opened up their homes to pets in need.

Notable adoptions

Jareth: We met Jareth in April when he was transferred into our care, and we all fell in love with him so quickly. From our staff to our volunteers, Jareth always had visitors and loved every second of it. While his tendency to get a little overstimulated kept him with us a bit longer than usual, he finally found his perfect match last week — someone who loves him exactly as he is. Congratulations to Jareth and his new guardian!

Jasper: Jasper is a sweet girl who came into our care in April. She quickly became a favorite, with many friends stopping by to check in on her during her stay. After four months with us, we’re thrilled to share that she found her lasting, loving home during our Clear the Shelters adoption promotion. Congratulations to Jasper and her adopter!

Kitty Kat: Kitty Kat is a sweet pup who had been in and out of our care since June. He was close with our trainers and volunteers and got the chance to go on many field trips during his time with us. After some time in our care, we’re excited to share that he met his match. Congratulations to Kitty Kat and his guardian!

Dior: After two months in our care, we are so excited to share that our girl Dior met her match during Clear The Shelters! This sweet girl was so loving and kind during her time with us, and we’re so excited that she found her home. Congratulations!

Supper: Supper’s journey with us began in June, and from there, we were on a mission to find her perfect home. This sweet and independent girl loved affection and treats, but needed someone who would respect her boundaries when it was time to snooze. Luckily, she found exactly who she was looking for last week and was adopted into the most wonderful home. Congratulations to Supper and her adopter!

Laurel: We’re so excited to share that after being in our care since June, Laurel finally found her perfect match last week! Laurel was a sweet and loving girl, looking for the right fit home, and we’re so glad she found what she was looking for. Join us in celebrating Laurel and her new guardian!

Harvey: Harvey was a social and confident cat who first became a resident with us in March. Harvey was diagnosed with diabetes, and although he was doing great on his treatment plan, his diagnosis made it more challenging to find him an adopter. Last week, someone was able to look beyond Harvey’s diabetes, and he was welcomed into a home of his own. Congratulations!

Atacama: Atacama had been in and out of our care since June 2024. He was positive for feline leukemia virus (FeLV), which made his stay a little longer with us while we found his perfect adopter. Thankfully, our Clear The Shelters adoption event encouraged his now adopter to take Atacama home. We’re so excited for this sweet boy and his new family!
