We Were Adopted: September 29 – October 5, 2025

Posted on Monday, October 06, 2025

Last week, our incredible team found homes for 72 pets! Cuties like Nevada, Gertrude, Mimi and Flanigan met their matches, and we’re so excited for them and their new guardians.

The celebrations don’t end there! In honor of the wonderful news of Francine’s return home, we’re waiving adoption fees for all cats and kittens through tomorrow, October 7. We look forward to helping you find your new furry friend!

Notable adoptions

Gertrude: Gertrude is a loving 10-year-old who had been in and out of our care since March. She’s incredibly sweet and affectionate, and after seven months of searching for her person, we’re excited to share that she has finally met her match. Congratulations to Gertrude and her new guardian!

Cherub: Cherub is a sweet cat who came into our care in July. He tested positive for feline leukemia virus (FeLV), which can sometimes make it more challenging to find someone willing to look beyond the diagnosis. Last week, however, Cherub’s perfect match adopted him. We are thrilled for both him and his adopter!

Finding Francine

Last week, our community learned that Francine, a local shop cat who lived at the Lowe’s on Broad Street, had boarded a company truck that departed for the Lowe’s distribution center in Garysburg, North Carolina. The Richmond SPCA joined volunteers and organizations including Richmond Animal Care and Control, Best Friends Animal Society, SOS Cats RVA, Where’s Francine and others to help search for Richmond’s beloved Lowe’s cat.

After a few sightings and assistance from employees at the Richmond Lowe’s, Francine safely returned home the morning of Oct. 6, 2025. We are overjoyed that our community came together to bring home this special cat.

In celebration of her return, we are waiving adoption fees for all cats and kittens on October 6 and 7. Stop by our humane center to find your purrfect furry friend!
