Home for the Holidays and New Beginnings
Another holiday season has come and gone. As we look forward to the new year, we’re taking a moment to celebrate the acts of compassion that defined the final weeks of 2025.
We were thrilled to watch many longer-stay pets find homes in time for the holidays. Lilo, a sweet and gentle soul who loves being right by your side, found her lasting, loving home after first entering our care in 2021. Stashey, a handsome 7-year-old cat who spent more than three months in our care, strutted into his new stomping grounds with confidence. Amara, a social butterfly who loves meeting new people and often visited with our youth programs, is spreading that love to her new family.
Two pets stole the hearts of many this season, persevering through surgeries and intensive medical treatment to ultimately find their happy ending. Sheath, a sweet cat with a painful eye condition, and Hopper, a loving pup that needed a leg amputation, are both settled in their new homes. Each has a family fully committed to providing the care they need and the future they deserve.
We are deeply grateful to every family who opened their hearts and homes to a furry companion in December. As we look ahead to the year to come, we’re hopeful that some of our shelter’s most beloved longer-stay pets finally find homes of their own. Earl Grey, Artie, Slow Mo, Fillion, Frida, and Boone – to name a few – are still waiting.
None of this would be possible without support from our incredible donors. This giving season, the Richmond SPCA raised 30% more in funding than last year. These generous donations, totaling nearly $700,000 in December, will provide crucial services like medical treatment, training, enrichment, and everyday care for homeless pets in need.
Thank you to everyone who showed up this holiday season, whether physically, financially, or emotionally. Compassion is truly the ultimate gift.
