Pet Post: Winter 2023 edition

Posted on Tuesday, December 05, 2023

Dear Friend,

American author Donald Miller once wrote, “Let’s choose to do something really difficult, something that saves lives, and let’s do that thing with people we love.”

Those words have always stuck with me, as they perfectly capture the essence of the Richmond SPCA’s mission — a mission we could never deliver without you. The hard, yet profoundly rewarding work of protecting, improving and saving the lives of vulnerable animals is made possible through the love and support of kindhearted and compassionate people like you — our donors, volunteers, foster families, adopters and close friends.

Miley is one of the kittens who received crucial veterinary care this fall thanks to your support of the Cinderella Fund.

Year after year, the Richmond SPCA rescues and rehabilitates thousands of homeless animals, the overwhelming majority of whom arrive at our doors sick or injured and in desperate need of medical treatment. Our dedicated veterinary team delivers these pets essential care so that they can be adopted to homes where they will be loved for their lifetimes. This work is challenging and resource-intensive, and it is at the very heart of our no-kill commitment. These dogs and cats, many of them with nowhere else to turn, rely on us for their chances at better lives.

Our success in delivering homeless pets from despair to recovery hinges on our extraordinary staff and volunteers who work tirelessly, but it also relies on the generosity of animal lovers like you.

One of the critical ways the Richmond SPCA guarantees lifesaving care to needy animals like those featured in this newsletter is through our Cinderella Fund, which covers the cost to medically treat our community’s most at-risk animals. We heal and nurture ill, injured and neonatal homeless dogs and cats and unite them with new guardians thanks to the Cinderella Fund and your contributions that sustain it.

That’s why we are dedicating every dollar raised through this newsletter to that special fund. In fact, thanks to the generosity of our dear friends at the Albert C. Bostwick Foundation, every gift of $50 or more made by December 31, 2023 in response to this newsletter will be matched up to $20,000.

As we continue down the path of lifesaving, we do so with your help, support and shared commitment to building a more compassionate community. Thanks to you, the Richmond SPCA will always stand ready to do the difficult work, and we are forever grateful that we get to do it with the people we love.

With gratitude and warm regards this holiday season,

Tamsen Kingry
