PARTING WITH YOUR PET
how we can help
If you are considering relinquishing your companion, our Admissions team members are here to help you navigate that difficult decision. They can counsel you about using the many programs and services we offer that will assist you in overcoming many of the challenges you may be facing with your pet. Our goal is to help you to resolve the problems you are experiencing so that you can retain your pet.
The Richmond SPCA’s Project Safety Net programs are designed to help you keep your pet instead of surrendering him or her to a shelter. Many pet-related challenges have solutions, and we can help you overcome those challenges in order for your family to stay together. We can provide:
If you are no longer able to care for your companion, but you would like to manage his or her placement with another responsible guardian, we can provide you with free rehoming assistance. Access our free listings of pets being rehomed.
The vast majority of the pets at our humane center are ones we have transferred into our care from government shelters where those animals’ lives were at risk. We urge you to consider every alternative to relinquishment and to utilize fully the resources we make available before surrendering your pet to a shelter.
We schedule surrender assessments by appointment Monday through Friday between 8:30 a.m. and 4:30 p.m. To request support, please call 804-521-1306 or complete our online form linked below.
